bauhaus books & coffee [02 Jul 2004|12:29am]

Many surprisingly satisfying pictures from this night. Being in the backseat has the advantage of letting one feel very unwatched; able to take pictures of the most mundane crap. I couldn't tell you how many times I've driven past this place myself, but this is a view I think I've missed before.

Messed with the white balance and inflicted a color permutation of the centric involution variety.

It was a late night. We had some blueberries. And now we have some vocabulary words as well.

T.T. Minor school, where, among other things, my camera was stolen. But I like it there in the summer (even with only one for experience so far), and they have a lovely little park which is one of Seattle's pesticide-free ones.

In the middle, on the right, you can see the garden. Secretly I love urban gardens. But it's only a secret because I never talk about it.

An update a long time in coming [29 Jun 2004|02:56pm]
I have more pictures that I just never formatted and posted, so I will be working on those. Why, you ask? Because I needed to take a hiatus. And now I need tasks to accomplish.

But I don't know when there will next be new pictures, because my backpack was stolen last week out of my car, and it contained all my work for my calculus class...and my camera, and my 256 MB memory card. Which is a problem, as you might have guessed. Financially, a camera is not a high priority right now, so I'll be working with what I have.

Looks like this will be changing course even more, then. So be it. I'll lay off any of the "MAYBE A BLESSING IN DISGUISE??" because I cannot tolerate that kind of crap right now, but if there is any sense to that karma thing, either I had some obscenely close calls which angels saved me from before, or I am due for some seriously good things to start happening.

eta 29 nov: Hey can you tell I've been productive tonight? Migrating the date on this as well or else it will sit at the top for approximately forever and drive me insane. 15 November is kind of like 29 June...

sibs [27 Jun 2004|10:02pm]

My grandma Maureen (who is technically my step-grandma) has a small group of women with whom she walks every Sunday. She calls it church, and loves it. One of them is 93 and still very vibrant, and still driving (the same car that she originally brought with her to Orcas decades ago). They are an incredibly fun group. I aspire to be that cool when I am old[er].

My brother John, my sister Inara (who is technically my half-sis, but whatever), and I joined them this Sunday. It was a lovely day, and I was probably sneezing miserably, but what I most remember was how green it was. I'd done this walk once before, but I think it was in the autumn or winter, and everything was brown. It was gorgeous this time.

à la ferme [26 Jun 2004|09:41pm]

My grandpa turned 80 this weekend. Considering the fact that he smokes like his life depends on it, I'm amazed. Giant family gathering up at their farm on Orcas Island, which was ... quite an adventure. I like dwelling on memories from when I was much younger; they had a lot of animals, and a huge amount of forested area around (though that's still there). I used to have a secret little spot deep in the woods; it was amazing. Now everything's getting all overgrown; they've got one chicken and a couple dogs and cats. No more sheep. No more goats. No more horses, unless they're taking care of someone else's. It's so strange.

festivities and the never-ending birthday [25 Jun 2004|09:17pm]

There is something remarkable about being underage and yet borderline-old-enough-to-look-21ish. Or, at least, I am often finding it to be so. People seem to find me precious, and then they buy me drinks and conspire to sneak me into, say, karaoke. I cannot argue with this. Even if it means that I end up not leaving anywhere near when I intended. Ha ha; I thought being 20 meant I'd have to go home when they headed out to bars. I still cannot believe that night happened as it did.

Angela knows how to put together an incredibly enjoyable night, as well as how to be ridiculously spontaneous. And a variety of other things, but I'll leave it at that. Tra la!

Playing around with my camera. In the upper right-hand corner, you can see a copy of L'Express International, which is in French. There is a whole collection of them. I aspire to begin reading them soon.

I like taking off my shoes and curling up on this couch and reading and drinking tea.

I think this was Ginger Peach. Exquisite. If I could, I would live here.

Yeah; I've been gone for a while, in the respect of this journal. Been taking the pictures, but lo and behold, having a memory card that can hold more than 22 pictures at 1024x768 resolution means I upload them far more infrequently (256 megabytes of BLISS). Regardless, I've got a few that are ready, and will soon have more. They will be backdated, though, until I catch up with the present (whenever that ends up being), so that I will not flood your friends page with nearly a month's worth of pictures. So yes. Pictures shortly.

ruins [22 Jun 2004|10:06pm]

They're remodeling my high school. Everything inside is in boxes; they start soon, I think. It's estimated to take two years. My little brother will have his senior year in a building across town; ugly as sin. And Stadium? A castle. It's gorgeous. (Seen 10 things I hate about you? Yeah.) Might put up gratuitous pictures of it sometime; I was stunned at how many I took today.

This used to be an apartment building. It was one of the only areas close to school where you couldn't park (there was no student parking lot; students had to park on residential streets; yes that's as fun as it sounds). Sometimes we could see into it from Mr. Dale's class on the fourth floor. Mr. Mcdougall's, too, now that I think of it. Math.

You can still see the basement windows. For whatever reason I can't help but focus on them.

I suck at reading, but that doesn't mean I don't occasionally try to recreate the insane speed and comprehension of my early childhood.

Lake Geneva is a lovely body of water. It's no Gulf, but we'll let it slide.

I lost about 13 pictures from this day, give or take a few, thanks to my own lack of consistency in giving a quick look-see to see whether or not everything uploaded alright. I'll chalk it up to experience and move on, but not before dwelling on the fact for a while. Dang. I venture farther down than I had before (on my last day there, no less) and what do I do?...

In honor of that, perhaps, today's photo is the product of the first time that my camera ever failed to focus properly at a long distance. In spite of that, I really like the way it feels. A little watercolor-y, perhaps?

do you have a flag? [15 Jun 2004|03:42pm]
[ music | Tori Amos: Little Amsterdam ]

There is all sorts of signage around (the aforementioned) here about the surf flags. My favorite description is the one in the hotel room, which, for red flag, says "avoid any water contact." No; don't touch *smack*; the sharks will eat you!

Red flags, as I have learned, also mean Macho Guys Surfing. It's amusing in a train-wreckish way.

We've had a lot of red-flag conditions over the past couple days. I'm ready for yellow and green again; I want to be able to go wading beyond my ankles without worrying about getting sucked under.
